It's official, my KC has stabilised!

Postby GarethB » Tue 24 Oct 2006 7:42 pm

Yup, had my check up this afternoon and all the tests are coming up with pretty much the same readings as my first consultation with KC part 2 in August 2004.

There are slight changes, but as we all know our vision changes throughout the day, depends on many factors but as near as makes no difference things are unchanged. I easily got 6/5 corected in both eyes.

I asked about other types of lenses which may allow me to race again and next month I go for a Kerasoft fitting. Need to go 24 hours without lenses just to make sure the RGP's have not had too much of a flattening effect on the cornea. They have said there are no guarentees because with RGP's i am off the scale, but some optoms have had succes fitting Kerasoft lenses to more adbvanced cases of KC than these lenses would normally be used for.

Have been told that with the dry eye problem I have and the less gas permeable nature of these lenses that in my cases wearing them like I do RGP's would be inadvisable, but fine for the occasional use for racing and as a spare pair. That is provided we can hit at least 6/6 as this is the limit for getting my MSA licence reinstated.

So excited I have given my friend so much GBH of the ear hole, he has given in and will let me for drive his Escort Cosworth in the Classic Car Show live action arena at the NEC this weekend :D

Good news about the stabilisation, and fingers crossed for the driving, too!

We don't seem to have many posters with Kerasofts, you'll have to tell us all about it! :D

Is it possible to get Kerasoft on the NHS?

If not, do the likes of Boots opticians prescribe them?

I am in the NHS system so will be provided through them if we can get a satisfactory fit.

It would seem these lenses are far from common because it is going against the norm of KC treatment with lenses and many optoms stick with what they know.

At the hospital I go to and the ones that post here are quite special in my view in that they will experiemnt with new lens types before making a decision on their worth and then they do not write them off completly.

Never heard of the likes of a high street optician chain such as Boots, Specsavers etc dealing with these, but they might.
