Broken lens Advice Needed

Postby DaveR » Tue 14 Mar 2017 4:49 pm

Long strong short, I stood on one of scleral lenses and shattered it.

Rang the hospital first thing this morning, someone took my details but no one has got back to me and no one is answering now.

I'm happy to buy my lens privately to speed up the process but I've no idea what I need from the NHS to do this or where I can go. There is no one listed on the supplier list on this site for East Yorkshire.

Also my sister told me I should have a number for contacting to arrange replacements myself but she lives in a different county to me so I don't if that's a standard thing.

I also rang Specsavers and the person who answered said that they don't do these type of lenses but I've just been reading an old forum post in which someone said they got theirs from Specsavers!

Well, scleral lenses are pretty specialised so very few High St opticians fit them, and there's only a few manufacturers. I don't know whether you'd be able to order a replacement direct from the manufacturers if you're prepared to pay the full price for it. But you'd need to know exactly what the prescription and fit is, so I don't think there's any short cut to speaking to the contact lens department at your hospital. Moorfields in London does have a number you can ring to order a replacement lens, but I don't know whether other hospitals have a similar system.
Most of us have know the pain of a lost or broken contact lens, so sympathies and good luck with getting a new one quickly.
