Few Questions

Postby chursy » Sat 14 Mar 2015 9:58 am

Hi

I had cxl done in my left eye in September 2014. Had haze after the treatment which sorted itself out.

I have the following queries
1) I am managing well with my glasses my prescription hasn't changed just had an eye test in January. My right eye is good with no signs of progression to date. Is my vision likely to stay stable after cxl in the left eye given cxl is done ? What has people experience to date after the surgery ?

2) is there a chance that I won't require cxl on my right eye ? Or no progression ? Does that happen ?

3) concerned about deterioration of sight hence just want to get an idea that despite all the treatment is there a chance the condition will still deteriorate ?

Thanks

Hi. Glad your haze sorted itself out... can I ask, was it severe i.e. could you physically see the haze in your pupil in a mirror yourself? I have it bad and haven't really seen any improvement in the last 4 months :| at the moment I've lost about 8 lines on the Snellen Chart.

1) In the non hazed eye my prescription changed about 6 months afterwards, for the better! Saw a reduction in astigmatism, although this is now changing again (I can feel the need to squint again to get good vision) but I was told it could fluctuate up to 12 months after CXL, so that's perfectly normal. It should eventually stabilise as that's the main reason for having the treatment in the first place

2) Yes it can stop progression all by itself, but it's an unknown quantity. It could stop, you think you're safe, and then it starts again. I decided to get my better eye done so it never became as bad as my worse eye... but now it's even worse (because of the haze) so it's really hard to know what to recommend unfortunately. Can I ask how old you are? My consultant originally said to me <30 do it, >30 don't do it. I was bang on 30, which didn't help make the decision!

3) CXL doesn't always work. It does have a high success rate (again ignoring hazing etc.) but there's no definite fix for your our disorder
