who went to the cornea day?

Hello did anyone else go to the cornea day in London yesterday? And what did you think? I went and found it a really valuable experience.Until recently I had never met anyone else with Kerataconus except my Dad and I had never met anyone who had had a cornea graft. I enjoyed meeting others who were considering or about to have grafts and reassuring them with my posative experience of having a graft. I also learnt lots about current research and treatments and about the journey of a cornea from donation to grafting.I also made a video film there of my experiences and answerd questions on organ donation for a medical student.All in all a very valuable day hope there will be similar events in the future.

Yes, I also went to the cornea day and found it really interesting especially the talk about stem cells and auto grafts. The general research session was also of value as it asked us the patients what we wanted from the research.

I didn't record a video but I did talk to a medical student about my KC diagnosis and contact lens wear.

Wasn't it good? I took lots of notes, so I will try to summarise them here when I've had a chance to go through them. The event was for people with all manner of corneal conditions, so the morning sessions covered the research going on in all sorts of areas while in the afternoon, we were split up into different groups. The keratoconus people were in the largest room as there were so many of us - I reckon at least half of the 80+ people there had KC. It was great to meet some of our members and also to talk to others who didn't know about this community but who are now signing up! Excellent presentations, and lots of opportunities for people to get involved (everyone was invited to give their details if they were willing to volunteer for future research). I don't know how many of the other hospitals in the UK have research departments interested in corneal conditions, but it would be great if others followed Moorfields' example in organising similar events.
