Soft Lens for Back up

Postby kieran19685 » Sun 28 Apr 2013 4:22 pm

Seen a post here recently where someone with KC got soft disposable lens for backup purposes which provided some vision.

I have been trying to obtain soft lens to try but have been going in circles, the hospital wont give me my prescription/measurements as my last eye test was last April, and suggested that i went for a new eye test at the opticians.

So i went for an eye test on Saturday and explained that i was after a pair of soft lens as a backup that i can wear occassionally. I was told that they dont want to step on the hospitals toes and i should go back to the hospital. The lady also said that disposables could make my eyes worst as they sit differently on the eye.

Its frustrating having KC sometimes....

Kieran,

I think that it was me who said they had soft disposable lenses for back-up. I got mine (a couple of years ago) from the High Street opticians when I went for an eye test for my back-up glasses. I was quite clear that I only wanted them for occasional wear (under goggles for swimming).

However I also fell foul of the opticians 'not wanting to tread on the hospital toes' when I wanted a prescription for reading glasses to go over my lenses and they said that this was the hospital's responsibility!

Kieran,

I don't know if a hospital would prescibe you soft lenses for back-up as most hospitals send you back to the High Street for eye tests and back-up lenses.

As for piggy backing they probably would supply these soft lenses if they decide this is the best way forward for you.
