Kerasoft2

Postby khatrimaf » Wed 10 Oct 2012 9:00 am

I need urgent suggestion.

I am at the optometrist and he has tried me with kerasoft 2 lens. He also tried IC but mine keratoconus is mild and so this lens was not comfortable. Right now I am wearing the lens and he has given me some time to stabilise the lens. Let's c how it goes with kerasoft 2.

He does not have kerasoft 3 trial set, so I was wondering if 3 is better than 2 range.please advise. If 2 seems good, shall I order it or find for optometrist who has kerasoft 3 trial set.

Awaiting replies.

Thanks.

From my experience the Kerasoft 3 is better than the Kerasoft 2 as it allows a better oxygen transfer so better for the cornea. The Kerasoft 2 takes at least 30 minutes to stabilise but the Kerasoft 3 and IC because it is a differnt material only takes a couple of minutes. As far as I am aware the Kerasoft 3 & IC material is more stable.

I am surprised he hasn't had much success with IC as it is a more versatile lens than the Kerasoft 2 & 3 and is desiged for mild to extreme KC.

Bottom line is that all our eyes are different, especially when it comes down to KC so we ofton have to go with what works.

I was told soft lenses would never work for me, yet 4 years in the Kerasoft IC lens I have never had a problem and fitting is easier than fitting an RGP lens and I get far better vision, comfort etc. etc...

I am coming to the conclusion much of this is down to the experience of the optometrist as much as the versatilityty of the lens and the individuality of the eye the lens is going in...?

Correct on both counts! Fitting lenses to keratoconic eyes has been described as being as much an art as a science. There is no such thing as a single type of lens that will suit all of us, nor is it easy to get a classic lens fit on an eye distorted by keratoconus.

Thanks all for useful feedback.

Yesterday I tried all trial sets. The most comfortable was kerasoft2. I had reasonable good vision and I think I might order them.

Kerasoft3 was a bit uneasy otherwise I would have gone for it. Let me try kerasoft2 and see how it goes.

Thanks.
