Thanks everyone and sorry if I hijacked your thread
There Ian!

Lynn, I thought the ghosting would have settled down in 8
Weeks? I will certainly ask at my next appointment at jimmys
About the kerasoft IC as it does also suggest doing this
On the kerasoft website if the 3's aren't quite doing the job

Will keep you posted....!

When I changed form RGP lenses to the Kerasoft it took about 12 months for the right eye and 9 months for the left. I thik that the demoulding time depends on how many years you have been wearing RGP lenses and how much pressure they [put ont he cornea either by pushing it flatter or squeezing it slightly.

Once I got through the demoulding stage, I have none of the usual visual side effects of wearing lenses such as ghosting, halos, glare etc.

I had a check up recently and we discussed my demoulding and the biggest change was over 3 - 6 months, so we would get perfect vision but over the months it would decline from 6/5 to about 6/9 and then we would go for a prescription change. This meant ove the demoulding periodlens changes were kept to a minimum because 6/9 is well within the driving standard and allowed for bad eye days should I have one where vision could drop off further periodically. These never occured.

Thi also meant that through the demoulding phase I could carry on normally.

You're lucky your optometrist is discussing these things
With you. Demoulding wasn't mentioned by mine!

I'm pleased i found this forum to gain the information

Just as an update to this....

Having had 3 months on the kerasoft3 I have a kerasoft IC coming

Not sure if it will help the ghosting issue until I try it but lights
Didn't seem to 'hang low' so much in the hospital.

If its no good I need to get in to something that may help
Either piggyback, hybrid or scleral I guess.

Really can't afford not to drive at night with my line of work!

I was speaking to my lens fitter yesterday. He confirmed to me that I have Kerasoft 2 lenses. So we are going to try Kerasoft 3 and then Kerasoft IC.

I'm in the same boat as you Nicky. I'm a professional driver and I hate winter time with darker nights. I need to get my night vision acuity better. Its dangerous to drive when you start seeing ghosting and loads of rings around every light source.

TBH, I don't think it would be legal to drive. But theres no stipulations, as I can read a number plate in daylight.

Silly thing is I can read the number plate.

It's just when there's a lot of lights it becomes a major issue

I used to get a little with rgp's but its gone crackers!

I'm sure the IC lenses can do the job but the people
At Leeds st James seem a little new to the kerasoft lenses.

I would have thought topography would help get the fit right
But of course I'm not the expert

Seriously considering going private and having this done
And see if I could have cxl. Although I only have one eye.....

Scared sh**less about the future frankly!!! :(

Even many professionals today think that just by looking at topography, it will mean they can get the perfect lens fit.

Unfortuantly topography machines are designed to work on 'normal' eyes, they can be made to give better data, but that requires a major rewrite of the software that these machines use. Even then they only give part of the story, the rest comes from looking through the slit lamp and even then many optoms will only look at the cornea from straight ahead so missing much information that is useful for lens fitting.

If you look at the eye straight on, you only see the central cornea which is what you get with topography, optoms also need to be looking at the corneal periphery where the contact lens will be resting on as this can be distorted by the KC in the central portion of the cornea. Therefore the optom should turn the slit lamp to see what is happening to your cornea from the side view.

Some optoms miss the basics with fitting the Kerasoft 3 and IC lenses as they put the lens in your eye and leave you for 30 minutes or so to allow the lens to settle. These lenses don't need this settle time which they wold realise if they looked at the short online training video for these lenses.

Once the lens is put in the eye, they need to look at the lens straight away to assess the movement, rotation and ask you about comfort. If the correct criteria are achieved then leave the lenses a bit longer and recheck the movement, rotation and comfort.

Hmmmm.....certainly it was comment by my optom that there was a lot of movement although the rotation was fine.

She said more movement was normally preferable but I suspect this may not be the case with these lenses.
