ARE YOU WAITING FOR A CORNEA?

Postby honeyfleur » Tue 26 Jun 2012 10:09 am

I’m a researcher for a programme looking at the Health Service for ITV. If you are on the waiting list for a corneal graft or transplant I would very much like to talk with you about your experiences.

Can you help? Or do you know someone else who is waiting?

At this stage, conversations will be off-the-record and for my research only.

Please contact me, Claire, on: 07960 055 122.

Thank you.

Hi all... Claire would be really keen to hear your experiences so please do get in touch with her if this issue affects you. You can of course use the Private Message facility if you want your details kept anonymous.

Personally, when I had my graft, one of the things that was hard to get to the bottom of was whether it was a case of getting a donor cornea that caused any delay -- or whether it was other things like theatre time availability, ancillary support like an overnight stay as an inpatient, the ophthalmologist's schedule etc. etc. which all needed to be in place. Sometimes I wonder if using the "waiting for a donor" reason is a nice, convenient ready-made answer that lets everyone off the hook ... Could have just been me so your individual stories are very helpful in finding out what's really happening.

Best wishes

Chris

unlike chris (longhoc) my graft was the worse decision of my life no one warned me and nothing i read could have prepared me for all the complications, it is important I feel that if you are doing this for tv you do not sensationalise what for all who make the decision to have a transplant isnt the easiest decision of their life, id much rather a programme shows the reality and all sides of it than focuses on the "success" of a transplant for the majority. feel free to message me x
May09 Diagnosed with KC, March 2010 after a failed transplant it has left me legally blind a long cane user (since 2010) who is blind in a once sighted world

Hi there,

Thanks so much for posting a reply to my request. I wondered if you could tell me more about your experiences? We're particularly interested in waits for cornea grafts, and why this might be, and if this impacts on the outcome of the operation. What happened with you if you don't mind me asking?

Very best,

Claire
