Always a sunday or out of hours!!

Postby space_cadet » Tue 05 Jul 2011 9:05 am

I am currently up in Scotland at my inlaws for a week, on sunday went to use my drops to discover non, clearly SAturday I just used the ones from my handbag, after a frantic search realised my inlaws have plenty Celuvisc in the fridge from when I was up last but no Dexamethazone, Lacrilube or Oxyal. so we phoned NHS 24 who were superb, they said to try the pharmacy in Livingston Boots so we went up there (about 15mins drive) they had the Lacrilube and Oxyal and phoned my GPs to ask them for a rx of Dex faxing up, my GPs refused because "she is abroad!!" (well technically but still within the uk) so we phoned NHS 24 back who said to go to Edinburgh to Sainsburys near Ikea and they will fax a rx to them, we got there a hour later no fax!! went for a coffee in the cafe to pass a hour and finally got the rx faxed from NHS 24. I am so daft, I thought my hubby had packed my drops he thought I had.

Lesson to be learnt, when going away always ensure you pack your own eye stuff don't depend on others to do so for you.

All sorted, then! But your GP really thought that Scotland was 'abroad'?

Don't know what to say about that.

:) don't you just love it! Well, maybe it's hard to smile when you are being inconvenienced by this sort of nonsense, but it really is a testimony to something-or-other that in the twenty first century there are educated people in England who think of Scotland as 'abroad'. :)
On the other hand, I have a friend in Yorkshire who talks about 'Going to England' for his holidays. When I once was bold enough to say, "Don't you mean 'Staying in England?'" he retorted, "I saId GOING and I meant GOING!"

The pharmacist in Livingston wants me to put in a complaint to the practice manager back at my doctors, I dunno I am in two minds over it.

My hobby horse de jour is that we get pretty rubbish service from our "service providers" far too often and we're much too polite about it. Perhaps rather than complain, maybe instead somthing along the lines of "I'd like to offer a bit of feedback which you might think about adopting as it could help your patient base...". I.e. a complaint. But with a sugar coating. Suppose instead it had been a diabetic who'd (admittedly been a bit dimwitted, but hey, we all make mistakes) run short of insulin...

Cheers

Chris

I probably will complain about it, easily occured as I usually keep a backup of drops in a black backpack, I thought Ben (hubby) had backpack on his back, couldn't tell n didnt' ask , saturday night I used drops out my handbag so didn't occur to me that there wernt enough for the rest of the week.

Sigh, last night I sneezed and burst a blood vessle in my eye, heard it pop and sure enough bright red eye followed - sigh x
