I shall be grateful for any information on So clear lenses.Im 47 yrs old and was diagnosed with KC about 15 yrs ago and started wearing scleral lenses about 4-5 years ago. I recently scratched the cornea of my right eye and due to the discomfort have since been unable to wear a lens in that eye. Truth is I was looking for alternatives before this incident anyway as with the sclerals often became extremely uncomfortable at the end of each day in one eye or the other resulting in soreness or reddening. I was investigating CXL and intacs but between this site & my optometrist have for various reasons been discouraged from going down that route. So2Clear lenses as has been explained to me are a combination of soft/hard corneo scleral RGP's that are more comfortable than normal RGP sclerals. This sounds interesting but Im keen on getting an independent opinion/experience of these lenses. Any takers?
PS. Can anyone explain why when I wear my scleral lens on my ok left eye it becomes unbearable to wear after a couple of hours? Must lens always be worn in pairs?

Re: So2Clear lenses
Hello Dokun and welcome to the forum.
The combination soft/hard lenses you describe are 'hybrid' lenses and one of the companies that make those is Synergeyes - there are several people on this forum who use them. The So2Clear lens is much more like a scleral lens, but about half the size. Again some people here have been fitted with those, so I hope you'll get some responses about both. Another possibility might be 'piggy backing' - wearing a soft lens underneath a hard lens. In fact at least one person here piggybacks with a scleral lens.
I don't know why you're finding a scleral just on the good eye becomes uncomfortable. Quite a lot of people with KC wear just one lens for part of the day to give the other eye a break, so lenses don't have to be worn in pairs.
I hope you find lenses to suit you. A scratch on the cornea usually heals within a week or two so you might be able to go back to sclerals.
All the best
Anne

Re: So2Clear lenses
Thanks for the prompt response Anne, I forgot to mention that the scratched eye is scarred which is why my Opthamologist tells me the lens are now uncomfortable to wear as rhe scar rubs up against the lens. He suggests a graft but Im not too keen on it, at least not for the moment.
Re: So2Clear lenses
Hi,
I have a SoClear lens for my left eye and have found it very comfortable! I had tried one in my right eye but had problems with debris building up under the lens which was affecting my vision later in the day. I was also struggling with inserting the lens without any air bubbles appearing under it. I now have a Synergeyes lens in this eye which I am getting on much better with. Probably the only way to know if the lens will be suitable will be to give it a go! For me, it was a huge improvement on comfort from the small Rose K lens I had before!
