Pre-Cataract Surgery Biometrics and Topography

Postby Anna Mason » Thu 14 Apr 2011 9:09 am

Yesterday I attended the hospital for my Biometric tests and topography.

My poor partner and I estimated half an hour so he parked down the road and went for a short stroll.

We had arrived early as I hate being late finding my way around hospitals.

Nearly 3 hours later I emerged. I had had my head stuffed in more machines and had more lights shone in my eyes than you can shake a stick at.
Pentacam, IOL scanner and ultrasound. I felt like I had done 3 rounds with Dr who in his Tardis.

I cannot heap enough praise on the lady who did all my tests Sue Carter. She was so thorough and had so much enthusiasm and interest in the tests and the results. I havent given her title as I am not sure what it is correctly. She really did set my mind at rest after all the worry about getting the tests done in time. She tells me they have to do complex calculations today and tomorrow ready for the Op on Tuesday.

Last night I had the best nights sleep I have had in weeks.

Now then I have questions for those of you that know stuff I guess its Physics really.

I have bad eyesight since I was 5 and KC was diagnosed in my early teens so the eye in question is very short sighted.

Does this mean they can do more with the lens behind the cornea than the lens in front ie scleral. I know it wont fix the KC but just wonder what others think ? The eye in question is my left or as I endearingly call it cr@p eye.

I had cataract surgery, and still have the original replacement lens they put in my eye. I think that this lens has a lot to do with the good vision I now enjoy.

I don't know that an inserted lens can do too much about the problem of your keratoconic cornea, but I'd certainly be interested to know what happens.

every good wish.

Hi Mr Maclean :-) Sorry cant recall is this eye grafted as well or just de- cataracted??

I am told my eye is quite long (I think thats what she said) I dont need any corneal surgery and know this wont change the KC but am a bit excited in case I at last get some reasonable vision with my lens on top.

You know how it is each new adventure gives a bit of hope.

You never know it might make the difference to me buying another horsey. :-)

+Blush+, I'm not sure that I deserve to be called 'Mr MacLean', that name always seems to belong more to my father than to me.

Grafted and de-cataracted :)
