Results of visit re Cataract

Postby Anna Mason » Wed 16 Mar 2011 5:29 pm

Well sort of good I think.

So yes the cataract in my left eye seems to have progressed since my optometrist visit in Feb so it hasnt been my imagination that the vision is much weaker.
I was told that he cant measure my eye with my scleral in it has to be left out for 48 hours so I have to go back fot that. I wish I had known as I am of the breed that if soemthing needs doing and can be done I want it yesterday.

Currently cataract is being replaced on 19th April but I have to find out my lens prescription before eye measurements not sure why. I am only having the standard sort of lens inserted not one of your multifocal thingummys perhaps those that know could explain.

The pin hole test was mind blowing I can only just read the top letter badly but with the colander in front I could see the lot. So off to read mycataractsurgery.com

That does sound like good news Anna - all the very best for 19th April. And the pinhole result is brilliant - if you achieve half of that I'm sure you'll be well pleased!

Thank you Anne you are so right. And the timing of the arrival of the 2009 DVD couldnt be better very informative. I may have looked at an operation too many however nothing phased me as I had done my research. As an aside how mucg does it cost to produce and send out the DVD's??

On a sad note I watched one of the Comic Relief Videos about a guy who lost his sight in Africa until SightSavers got involved and I found that quite frightening. We all take so much for granted in this country that we will get the treatment we need when for others it is not even optional.

Hi Anna,
Meant to reply before to your question about the DVD. Getting 2000+ copies and postage for sending them out came to roughly £2000 ie £1 per member. Plus heaven knows how many freely given hours/weeks/months of John's time to put a master together, for which we're profoundly grateful.
Glad it came in useful!

Well Op is still scheduled for 19th and I have to have a Biometry test prior apparently someone called Sue had my notes on 24th and is arranging so it would be kinda nice if someone would tell me whats happening as I have heard nothing and I do actually have other stuff in my life.

Can I just say Grrh!

Update on my Grrh!

Ok first off I will state that from a previous life I have private Health Insurance and I am using this to have my Surgery. This will make everything so much easier and straight forward.

So I saw Mr A the Consultant who could not operate on certain dates because of his holiday. He booked me in for 19th but said I needed a Biometry test prior to that. This was in early March Four and a Half weeks before the Op. Heard nothing still heard nothing.

Received forms for Op but no Biometry test chased chased again Secretary emaild Mr A on Holiday who said he had handed file to Ms B and asked for it to be done prior to 19th. This information was passed to me when I nagged his secretary yesterday (poor girl).

Chased again today quite anxious as I had been told I would need to leave my lens out for 48 hours and sorry folks but I have a life and need to know when.

Finally get a call from Ms B saying two of them need to do the test and she has been away so left my notes with other person Ms C. She is meeting Ms C tomorrow and will probably do me next Friday but will confirm after meeting tomorrow.

Now I am pleased they are taking the complication of KC seriously but why the Hell have I had to do all this chasing to get someone to tell me what is happening!
I am now in the situation that I hope they dont find a complication next Friday as it will be to late to sort anything out for the Op on 19th and please God they arent going to send results to the consultant in the Post.

If I were personally paying for this I would be unhappy and I am paying for it because I pay a monthly premium as a result of my previous life.
