Synergeyes

Postby Anna Mason » Mon 25 Oct 2010 3:20 pm

Just got back from Lens Fitting (I lie I had a Cup of Tea first).

I have had an hour or so of trying out various fittings of Synergeyes lenses. I am guessing they are ClearKone as I have to fill the lens with saline to put it in.
As usual an hour of putting in lenses taking them out and shining lights in my eyes has driven me close to large bars of chocolate.

They are so new to my practitioner that she was double checking the fit in the instruction book now if she had gotten me a copy I could have memorised it and helped her out!! At least after we had muddled our way through crowbarring the first fit into my eye (my description not hers) by the time I left having inserted fit 4 or was it 3 I lost track I wacked it in first go.

Big thumbs up for my OH who waited outside and had been off and bought me a tube of smarties for when I came out. At my age fancy getting bought smarties for being a good girl.

Now we wait for 3 weeks for the order to come in from the States!!

Meanwhile I am taking some time to get used to my larger Scleral in my left eye as the saline keeps getting Gungy!

Hiya, Very interesting question where to start :-

I am using the clearkone in my Right eye and it took some perseverance to come up with a system of removal and insertion so if you do get one contact me and I'll tell you what does and doesnt work once its sorted its easy peasy.

Wearing time I wear for about 15 hours and usually only take out because I need my beauty sleep. I wear it in my right eye which used to have a softperm. I am not as happy with the vision as I was with my softperm and I have odd instances of blurred vsision but I think its if my eye dries a bit. I was told my cornea was all wrinkled from the softperm (very appealling).

I have a scleral still in my left eye and have abandoned the larger scleral as it was agony. I find the clearkone so good I am going to ask about fitting my left eye with one to see if I can get better vision but also going to ask what other options there are for my Right eye as it is my good eye and I want the best vision I can have.

It gets a little complicated as my left eye goes to Oxford and my right eye goes to Gloucester but you will be glad to know that whichever eye has an appointent I normally travel with it.

Hope this helps.

moe are you not entitled to recieve your lenses through the nhs? If you are a british national you should be able to, thou other nationalities arent always entitled to treatment thru the nhs depending on their status n visas

Hi first time forum user, long time KC sufferer and Lens wearer.
Had KC since I can remember and been through all the lenses starting with the Gas Perm when I was first diagnosed, I cant even remember when that was to be honest. But I remember one year on holiday it was dry as the dessert and as warm as hell itself and the gas perm were just the worst thing in the world to have been wearing at that time, the dust got in and the eyes just burned with irritation, it kinda tarred me for life and I now have a slight dislike and an assosiation towards my lenses.
I have done the piggy back method wheer with a soft lens and then the gas perm on top, only for the gas perm to run off behind the eye as such or pop out during normal activity. Irritation and frustration where, well frustrationg and iritating, lol.

Anyway I am her to get some help and info.

I have been wearing what myself and my practitioner commanly call the hybrid lens (gas perm centre soft lens skirt) not to be confussed with a hybrid lens which is a lens of several composit materials)

Anyway a while back the manufacturer of my nice hybrid lenses (and for those wondering they are a joy to wear, the comfort and fit is magic and I have had mine in on occations for up to 24 hours due to travelling etc. I have a pair that are now well over 1 year old and a pair that are well over 2 years old (lucky my perscription hasnt changed) and they are still a comfort to wear on the occations that I still wear them (this will be apparent in a moment).
Right sorry back to the topic.
recently as in just back in march I was set for a new set of lenses only to be told by my opticion that these magic hybrid lenses are now unavailable in the UK due to manufacturing costs and demand being low.
I was statring to get fitted for sclera lenses (they sit on the white of the eye. but still have my old hybrid lenses.
while on a trip to the US visiting friends I mentioned my condition etc and being the kinda dumb ass I am couldnt remember the spelling, so my friend went on line got the spelling and was interested in the condition why no idea.
This lead me to find out that these Hybrid lenses as I call them are still available in the US.
So I looked into getting a apir while there but time was to short in that area even with my full perscription and specifications at hand.
So I brought the number home along with the company name SYNERGEYES and doing some internet searching I find myself here.

My question is this: -
Those that are wearing the 'Hybrid' lens ridgid gas perm with soft skirt, how long have you been wearing them (from the posting it suggests not to long but you have started wearing them after I was told they dont make them here any more)
Could you /would you be so kind as to ask your optician if they would supply details of the manufacturer/supplier here in the UK or how they get a hold of the lenses and would you be so kind as to give such information to me so that I may then give it to mu optician (Just before I leave and find a new one).
I am sure there are more than just me who go through my optician who has KC and are in the same boat.
I would appretiate it and thanks in advance.

Not sure if I understand all this I had hybrid lenses with a soft skirt they were softperm made by CIBA vision and you placed them on your eye directly. I now have a Synergeyes Clearkone which is a hybrid with a softskirt and you fill the well with saline they cover the Iris.

The suppliers in the UK are here:

Thanks Anna,

To be honest I aint quite sure what type of lenses I had either.
probably a softperm type.
Olthought my opticion did say that they floated on the tears of the eye and as standard I always filled mine up with saline before insertion.
I know when I started out with the 'skirted kind' They used to run ob the tip of the bulge and cause irritation, but then I was fitted with ones that had a cut out on the inner surface for the bulge to fit into. All complicated and stuff.

But again thanks for that info and I will be sure to take it along to my opticion and hopefully set myself up with a new set of 'skirted' lenses and move away from the scleral ones which are big and heavy and tier my eyes out in a few hours.
