Firstly Hi to everyone,
I went to the opticians about 8 weeks ago because I was having lots of headaches, dizzyness on stairs and had noticed blurred vision in my left eye. He spent ages checking with his equipment and asked me if I had a blow to the eye which I hadn't. He referred me through my doctor to the local hospital saying that It looked like I could have KC. I am 43 and have worn glasses for 20 odd years for my astigmatism. Is it unusual to develop KC at my age? or just never picked up on before. My first appointment is tomorrow at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, not sure how their eye department rates , there doesn't seem like any members on here from my area. I'll let you know how I get on shortly.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, it is unusual, but not unknown, for people to have their KC first identified in their middle years, but the upside is that the cornea naturally becomes more stiff with the passage of years so that patients who are older at diagnosis are far less likely to progress to require surgery.
At your appointment they may suggest you try wearing contact lenses. If this is the case, you can expect a remarkable improvement in your eyesight.
All the best

Hi there! Welcome to the forum,
Yes it is unusual to be older when you get diagnosed but not uncommon. As Andrew has said, this could be a very good thing as KC stabilises later in life so surgery would be less of an option.
A lot of people do manage very well with glasses, though more try lenses. With good vision, whatever you use the headaches and dizziness should resolve.
Take care and let us know how you get on!

Would like to report my good news, It's not KC
the consultant said its just my astigmatism that has gotten worse. Got to have another eye test with their optician next month then go back to the consultant in 4 months time, just need some new specs.
