advice please

Postby preece3 » Sun 06 Sep 2009 6:51 pm

Hello all I had a corneal graft about 15 years ago I think and I have found over the last few years the vision is not the best im not sure if it was ever better. I have found that if I pull the side of my eye well face it makes the vision a lot better.
Is the any thing I can have done that will just pull it a little to the side as the vision goes really good then?
Regards
John

Hi Paul,
tried to reply yestrday and the computer keep freezing.
Is your grafted eye markedly astigmatic?
- does your spectacle prescription have a fairly high "cylinder" number?
- or do the vertical lines in a sudoku grid look clearer than the horizontal ones (or vice versa0?
If so, I wonder if you are pulling the astigmatic "rugby ball" shape of your corne rounder and more like a football, so less astigmgmatism.
Of course, we can't see your eyes here, so really you need to talk to your otician/optometrist/ophthalmologist about this.
If the problem is astigmatism getting worse, it is possible you may get better vision with contact lenses than glasses.
Assuing you can tolerate contacts, of course.
If you tried shortly after your graft and didn't get on with them, it may be orth trying again.
There have been a ariety of new types of lenses for people with KC in the last few years.
As you graft is 15 years old, it's not likely they will be able to "tweak" the shape to make it less astigmatic but taking out stitches - or even restitching in places.
As they do with new grafts.
ne more thought: have you mbeenhought - have you had your eye pressure measured recently? (so-called glaucoma test).
If not, maybe you should ask for this at next appointment. Increaed pressure could change eye shape.
Rosemary
