Kerasoft 3 lens

Postby Tajvinder » Tue 25 Aug 2009 12:51 pm

Hi All. I am a new member to this site and find that it is helpful in providing information on Keratoconus and real life expriences that people have to deal with on a day to day bases.
I have had Keratoconus since a teenager and have used RGP lenses. I found it difficult to wear them for more than 1 hour and constantly went back to the optician to alter the fitting slightly to increase the confort. At the end of 2007, my optician prescribed me with the Kerasoft 3 lens and I must say that I am very happy with both the confort and vision level. Although the vision is not as good as it would be with an RGP lens, it is good enough for day to day activities.
The only other downside I experience is that the vision deteriorates as the day progresses , but this is due to the eyes drying out. I use blink eye drops which seems to help.

I would say to people who cannot tolerate RGP's to try out the Kerasoft 3 lens.

Does anyone have any experience with hybrid lenses? If so can you please provide me with your experiences.

Tajvinder

Welcome to the forum. I did try hybrid lenses but without any success. My eye got too dry and the soft skirt on the lens gripped my eye too firmly.

Others have had much better experiences.

All the best.

Hi Tajvinder,

Your KeraSoft 3s may be a little tight... that's one reason for vision to wander off at the end of the day...

Hybrids.. well there are several types so you cannot generalise too much. Essentially you are talking about an RGP centre and a soft lens skirt - and some people find they are fantastic and some have really bad experiences. Main issue is vascularisation - and that depends on the individual. You cannot really ask others about their experience and translate it to yourself, as everyone is different. The most you can glean from others experience is that something may work that you hadn't really thought could. Its worth you trying ... but it may not be exactly for you.

The temptation is that you get RGP vision with soft lens stability... from a practitioner point of view, it can cause problems if over worn.. and its so comfortable, overwear is a serious issue.
