red eye

I've just had a new set of hard contacts for my KC and was really freaked out when i put my specs on after wearing the lenses for a few hours -my vision was loads worse. does anyone know if ths is this normal? Also just started a new job and have constant blood shot eyes around the edge of my contacts - not good when trying to get people to concentrate on what i'm saying not what wrong with my eyes....grrrrrr

After taking you lenses out and then returning to your glasses it will take time for your eyes to re-adjust. As for the red eyes, it may be one of two things. Overwearing or the fit. Either way best to go back to your fitter and raise your concerns. For the time being it is probably best to leave the lenses out and continue with your glasses.

Hallo Helen,
It is quite common that:
1. after wearing new lenses that give better vision that you had before, it is a shock to realise how bad was what you'd been coping with
2. wearing hard lenses affects the shape of the eye - either by "moulding" the eye to the shape of the lens or by the eye swelling up a bit - so the vision straight after you take the lenses out isn't what is normally is when the lenses have been out for some hours/days/overnight.
The latter should wear off back to "normal" after a while (though some people say it takes a long time for the effect to wear off totally).
If it's marked and long-lasting, and given what you say about your eyes being red, it could be the fit isn't all it might be, and a trip to the fitter for a re-check is neeed. Particularly if the lenses are uncomfortable when in.

are the eyes getting dry when wearing the CL this also may cause the red eye

Bottom line is red eyes for anyone is generally a bad sign, especially if you are wearing lenses.

It is probably best to get your eyes looked at as soon as possible to make sure no harm is being caused by the new lenses. The red eye might be unrelated like dry eyes but the only way to know for sure is seing your optom ar paying a visit to eye casualty.
