Can i wear one CL and my glasses

Postby Lizb » Wed 03 Dec 2008 6:56 pm

As stated in one of my other posts i have just been very recently diagnosed with KC in my right (having had it in my left for about 10 years) but am really struggling with my CL at the moment in the right eye. I am waiting on appointment with the eye clinic to see how far it has progressed etc

I was fitted with Synergeye contact lenses earlier this year (KC for my left and normal for my right). I am really struggling with my right CL, blurred vision misty view etc. I am able to cope with glasses with a balance lens for my left eye, with my right eye doing all the work. At the moment i am really struggling to see my computer at work without CL and struggling to wear CL in my right eye (very sore, minimal wear time, extremely light sensitive morning after wearing CL, etc) so was wondering about putting my CL in my left eye and wearing my glasses for minimal vision in my right?
Obviously this would be until i find out to what extent my KC is in my right eye and get a new prescription for my glasses and revised CL for my right eye. What are peoples thoughts on this idea?

Hi, and sorry to hear you're having problems.
Yes, why not try wearing one CL and glasses on top? Give it a go and hope it works out.
SOme people get on fine with one CL at a time (I've been doing that for years) and others find the resulting vision very odd. I guess it's a quiestion of try and find out.
A very "motherhood and apple pie" sugggestion is to try it out first when you're doing something not very important (housework, maybe...!) before you try it driving, climbing ladders etc.
Glld luck,a nd let us know how things go. HOpe the hospital get you sorted out soon.

I wear a contact lens in my left eye and glasses for my right eye; the thing is that the lens in my glasses for my left eye is just clear glass (I think they call it a balance lens).

The problem with wearing prescription glasses and a contact lens on the same eye would be that your correction will be all to pot.

The left lens in my glasses is a balance lens due to the prescription that would be required coz of KC. I have been fortunate that i have been able to rely on my right eye until very recently if i have had a no CL day (not currently possible now :( ).
I am really struggling with my right CL probably due to the recent diagnosis of KC in that eye but my left CL still seems to be comfortable - yep i am being my normal arkward self  so to help my vision particularly at work i was thinking of just wearing my left CL with glasses for the right eye so i can actually be useful and not just a spare part with a good memory.

That sounds as though it should work. Your brain might take a little time to adjust to a new way of seeing, but it's amazing how adaptable our brains can be! Good luck.
