Gordon's free prescriptions?

Postby rosemary johnson » Tue 23 Sep 2008 11:35 pm

Been hearing reports onthe radio news today that GOrdon Brown is proposing to bring in free prescriptions for people licing with cancer.
All prescriptoins, apparently, not jsut cancer meds.
And furtherore, that he intends to extend this to all people with long-term health conditions.
Good news.
Bring it on.
any ideas, anyone, of how to strike while the iron, is, one might say, hot? - that is, to whom should onewrite/email to support this idea.
Trying not to wonder if Gordon has long enough left for it to see the light of day.
But let us live in hope.
Of course, there's still the issue of the availability of solutions of prescription at all - but if Gordon can pull it off (as it were) that will be an enourmous help not only where the solutions can be got, but for those of us who gt through rather a lot of eye drops and the like.

I think that the best prospect for the advance in free prescription dispensing of contact lens peripherals for KC sufferers is for those in each jurisdiction to know what is available in the other parts of the UK and then putting pressure on their own politicians to equal that provision.

Dr Brown seems to be proposing the free dispensing of prescription drugs to people with cancer in England. I'd guess that many people in England who have cancer are already entitled to this provision, but any chink in the armour is worth exploiting. keep writing to your MP, MSP, Assembly Member etc and in time we may have a uniform provision across the UK that is good for us all.

The news reports I heard said it was cancer patients first, and the intention was to extend that to other long-term conditions in due course.
Yes, many people with cancer will get free prescriptions already, and some won't.
