Graft- stitch too tight- any similar experience?

Postby dweezil1968 » Tue 26 Aug 2008 12:01 pm

Hi, i had my graft last November 2007, its all been ok so far, and the vision gets better and better, ie clearer every week. Have had odd bouts of extreme light sensitivity, pain etc but nothing major that some drops, rest etc didnt help.
always looking out for RSVP
But I noticed I more or less had triple vision in the grafted eye (was used to doubleand blurred) thing is each image ie I am looking at my cat with grafted eye, I see 3 of him- is in triplicate albeit sharp and in focus
so I was at the hospital a few weeks back and they said the triple vision was due to ONE stitch being too tight and pulling the cornea out of whack- BUT they would not take this one stitch out as the whole lot will come out in about 3 months time
so, when the stitches are out this will go?
so far I am confident the vision is much improved as with pinhole glasses i can get to line 4 on the old chart.
has anyone else had something like this?
thanks

Many surgeons will remove sutures one or two at a time, in order to ensure that the tension on the cornea is evenly distributed and the eye can heal evenly.

My own surgeon took the sutures from my first eye in two traunces of eight each. The second eye, all 16 sutures came out at once; I think that they decide how many to remove on the basis of the position of the new cornea.

All the best

thanks, I guess they are of the opnion that removing them altogether will be best- I asked whether the one rogue one could come out now but they said no.
not so long to wait now anyway!

Hi dweezil, my graft was done Dec 2007. Only triple vision? Do a test - switch off all lights in your room and watch some LED (for ex. on the TV panel). How many do you see this LED. I see a lot of them. Approx. half of stitches are removed so far...

I can look across my room and see three copies of the picture frames for each of the pictures on the opposite wall - almost vertically aliged, one main, one strong ghost higher, one fainter ghost lower. Actually, there may be more but too faint to count.
I can see three (at least) copies of the yellow line across my computer screen that this text is being typed onto. Unless I lean across the keyboard to about 5" fromt he screen.
If I look out of the window after dark and I see a few dozen copies of each street light down the road or car headlamp, arranged in a sort of triangular pattern.
I have a single running stitch so it either all comes out or all stays in (I hope not the latter!)
Vision - can't quite read any of Snellen chart unaided, get nearly 6/5 distance vision with new scleral lens but need reading glasses over it for close vision, but been told not to waer new lens after trips to A&E last week.
