Cross linking treatment in NHS

Postby mordechay » Tue 24 Jun 2008 4:37 pm

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows:
a. is there a Cross Linking treatment available through NHS in UK?
b. if not, is there any progress about it/ how long does it usually takes for NHS to let this kind of treatment into the list of services?

thank you!

Yes, there are, but so far they are "trials", and not going on everywhere.
If you go to - or can get referred to - one of the hspitals doing the trials, you may hit lucky.
How long before it gets beyond the trials stage to general usage and availability - ah, who knows?

Actually, my experience of medical trials is that is seems that nothing is happening until suddenly everything happens at once.

Rosemary is right; CXL is not yet generally available on the NHS, but it is under trial in some centres. If you fit the criteria for the trial then you may well be adopted for inclusion.

All the best

St thomas in london is trialing , I got on it pretty late as i was told about it 2 years ago and requested to get on it 2 years later and they allowed me, so you might get lucky. THE TREATMENT IS PAIN ! PAIN I TELL YOU

mordechay

I am sorry; I seem to have omitted to welcome you to the forum. Please forgive me, and accept a belated 'welcome'.

Did you manage to get included in any of the CXL trials in the UK NHS?
