... and I am nodding away happily to the music in my iPhone when they come for me. The best thing about Glasgow is that somebody will nudge me and say, "Haw, Jimmy. Is your name 'Andrew MacLean'?" Then they point vaguely in the direction of the nurse who has been bellowing my name at the top of her voice, only to lose out to the dulcet tones of Elvis Presley, or a Baroque ensemble. (I have my iPhone on 'shuffle' so it delivers some odd juxtapositions of musical style).

Ah, now, I remember the time when I'd been sitting in the hospital waiting area for the obligatory ages and ages, and my practitioner, when he eventually came to call me in, commented on how I was apparently both reading the newspaper and listening to a SOny walkperson.
What I think he didn't realise was that, this being a Thursday afternoon in mid-March, it was the day of the Cheltenham GOld Cup, the walkperson was in fact a radio and the paper the Racing Post.
And what had been particularly galling was I'd been sitting there listening to this, and hearing that a horse I'd watched running for half a million francs and an objet d'art when I was working in Paris was starting an unconsidered outsider, and then, to my globe-trotting satisfaction had runinto a place at no less than 28-1, hile I was stuck in a hospital waiting room and not free to dash out to the bookies for a little bit each-way on him.
