Hi All,
I've recently been told that I have KC in my right eye and that is apparently 'mild'. I've just turned thirty (today as a matter of fact!!) and I've suffered from allergies to cats, house dust etc all my life.
What is causing me problems at the moment is dryness of the eye which seems to make my vision worse. I've tried various over the counter eye drops which work on occasion. When I wear my soft contact lenses this tends to either make the situation much worse or much better!!! I can't seem to find any consistancy! However when my eye is 'playing up' I find it very difficult to stop myself from rubbing it (apparently a big-no-no).
So anyone got any tips/advice for my dry itchy wanting to be rubbed eye?
Newbie with a few probs!!!

Dan,
Hello there and welcome to the forum! So sorry to hear your recent diagnosis and on your birthday as well! Not nice
You are already wearing soft lenses which is good, most with KC have to wear RGP lenses which are thicker. Dryness is a common problem and you can try lubricating drops. As you have said rubbing is very bad for your eyes, try taking your lens out and using a hot flannel this sometimes helps with the itching. Lubricating drops are good, when your eye is dry it will itch more.
KC as you will find out with reading about it shows a lot of differences! If you google for it you are going to get a lot of bad stories which lead to having a graft done. Please don't panic, the people who post here are normally the bad cases who need some support. Mild cases are around we just don't hear about them often!
Take it easy

Dan
Welcome to the forum and happy birthday!
When my eyes become dry and itchy (which they often do) I just flood them with hypermelose (artificial tears), which I keep in the fridge. Cool hypermelose on a dry and itchy eye is a pleasure that I cannot describe, but it is better than chocolate.

Re: Newbie with a few probs!!!
there are a few over the counter eye drops which have helped my with dry eyes such as systane and hypermellose. Its also a good idea to use artificial tear drops while wearing your lenses as mentioned above. celluvisc eye drops are also good. never ever rub your eyes even if you really want to, what i do is keep a bottle of saline in the fridge and rinse out my eyes with saline when they feel dry, the cooling effects really helps

Re: Newbie with a few probs!!!
I mainly use vital eyes contacts soother or I just pop the lenses out and then clense them in some contact soloution
I've been trying to trying to find a optician in or near to Aylesbury that has knowledge of KC. Anyone got any ideas?

Dan - if you look at the list of KC-friendly optoms on the home page of this site, you'll find one in Beaconsfield which isn't too far from Aylesbury.
