whoa!

Postby timtim » Wed 05 Sep 2007 6:15 pm

Something strange just happened...

I turned my head and eyes to the right, and my left lens came off of the center of my eye. It fell off and went down into my lower eyelid. Luckily, I'm at work and got it out and put some solution on and put it back in. Kindof scary because if I were somewhere else, I could easily have lost it.

My lenses are new, I'm still being fitted, so is this something I should be alarmed about? I hope it doesn't happen again. I will definitely mention it to my doc next visit.

Mention it anyway. I think that this is fairly common but always annoying. the problem seems to arise because there is always a compromised in fitting lenses to eyes with Keratoconus.

Most of us develop strategies to cope with this, but I was always told off for sliding my lens back onto my cornea without taking it out first. My Optometrist thought I was risking doing more damage to my cornea.

It could be the fit but not necessarily. I had a couple of spills early on with my lenses and on a couple of occasions lost the lens in the process. I now automatically tend not to look out the corner of my eyes, look inward or twist my head around to quickly. After a while you don't even think about it. But it would be worth getting the fit looked at in case.

I get the same if I move my eyes rapidly, mainly right lens because of way it sits and the fit is ideal for my type of KC.

To blink the lens out i need to move my eyes rapidly to their extreme left or right and blink at the right moment.

As i know what causes the lens to fall out, I have learnt to move my head instead odf my eyes to the extreme. After a while it became second nature and it is a couple years since I last blinked out a lens accidently.

I know you must be due for a check up as these lenses are quite new. Mention it to rule out lens fit issues and describe the situation that made the lens fall out.

The lens feels like its fit really well, thats why it caught me off guard. I'm glad that its somewhat common at least. I'll just have to be more careful about sudden eye movements, and I'll describe what happened to my doctor when I go back next week.

Thanks for the help :D
