Postby Michelle Oates » Tue 31 Jul 2007 4:28 pm

Hi

Have just come from a hospital appt and was there 2.5 hours. flipping heck.
Anyway had some corneal pictures taken and never had this done before but they mentioned the different grades of keratoconus from these pictures and wondered what they meant. ie grade 2.

thanks

New keratoconus severity index was based on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the better eye at last visit and defined as: grade 1 (least severe), spectacle wear with BCVA of 20/40 or better; grade 2 (intermediate), spectacle wear with BCVA worse than 20/40 or rigid gas permeable lens wear; grade 3 (most severe).

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this, I hadn't heard of this index until you posted. I did come accross it when researching the index:

Looks like your KC us on the move!

Thanks Andrew for looking for me.

that doesnt really make much sense from my visit as i came out as a grade 3 and grade 3.6 but she confused me with what she said.

This becomes more and more puzzeling! Next time you go to the clinic, take a note of some questions about the index that is being used. Write down the answers and read back what you think was being said.

I do this sort of thing most times I go to see the ophthalmologist. They really do not mind, and seem to value the patient participation in the process.

Let us know how you get on and what is said.

All the best

Andrew
