Does anyone have joint hypermobility?

Hi everyone...

I have seen some links (in journals) between joint hypermobility and keratoconus which is quite possible as the over mobility of joints is caused by collagen problems. I was just curious if anyone here also has joint problems or any other collagen related disorders?

My wife does but she doesn't have KC.

I am not particularly asking about joint problems per se.. just if your joints flex more than usual - which you will know about with your wife having it.

I must declare a personal interest here as well. Both my sister and myself have joint hypermobility and she has sub-clinical KC whereas I don't, but we both have almost identical prescriptions... so we are curious as to who else has this!!

Sorry Lyn, I am in the same boat, my wife has hyper-mobility! If fate is really cruel perhaps our son will have both
Seriously, my wife has severe brittle asthma as well as her impossibly flexible joints. Perhaps there is an atopic link? Her grandmother had hypermobility too, her mother as well. Its a strange thing because a lot of people envy her flexibility but the combination of that and the 40mg of prednisalone she takes for her asthma do not bode well for her bones!
I can only report a dislocated shoulder due to Judo but that does count, perhaps if I didn't have KC I would have seen it coming!

I have a degree of hypermobility. My party trick when I was a kid was to turn both feet inwards >90 degrees and prance around!
I have posted on collagen abnormality before, as I read this can lead to premature delivery in pregnancy, which happened to me.

I have a double jointed thumb joint and are otherwise fairly flexible yes

Strange you should mention this.......

My right shoulder is hypermobile as I can raise my arm above and behind my head and touch my left shoulder without effort. (could probably do the same with the left if it wasn't for the osteoarthritis in the AC joint). With both my thumbs I am able to "dislocate" the joints and "snap" them back without any effort or pain. I can also turn my legs outwards so that my feet form a perfect 180 degree angle to each other.

And there was me thinking I was "normal"

Well this is interesting because this is why I was asking the question, Hypermobility can be just in one or two joints but it does mean generally that the collagen in your ligaments is not the same as non hypermobiles.. and I have read several articles relating this to KC.

And yes, many hypermobile people DO go into ballet.. so do you want a white tutu or a pink one?
