One lost lens and one frazzled all on the same day!

Postby Michael P » Fri 20 Jul 2007 6:55 pm

Today has not been the greatest of days.

In the morning I frazzled my one day soft lens when it fell onto my wife's illuminated make up mirror. By the time I had found it, it was molten lava! Next time I will know where to look first  .

Because I am running short of the daily lenses, I decided not to piggyback my left eye and as a result had to take my rgp out fairly early in the day, whilst I was downstairs.

As I was about to clean the lens and put it in the case, the phone rang and I put the lens down on what I thought would be a safe place on a glass shelf, above the wash basin in my bathroom. That was the last time I saw it.

I can only assume it fell into the wash basin and down the plughole. I cannot remeber the last time I didn't put the stopper in and it's Sod's law that the ONE time I don't, I get punished  .

Fortunately the rgp was my second choice lens but I am having to ration the use of the soft lenses because I am away for a few days next week and my supply from MEH hasn't arrived yet.

How frustrating! Its so annoying when a lens is busted/broken/lost, you know you've got days/weeks of poor eye sight ahead.
Hope you get your new lens in short order.

Michael
So sorry to hear that - you've had to wait so long to get sorted out with your lenses and now this.

I know it's not recomended as a general rule , but you can actually re-use your daily soft lenses as long as you clean them properly with an all in one solution for soft lenses - and very carefully! My optician gave me that tip - might help you out over this period?

Take care - going away anywhere nice?

You have my sympathy......I know all about losing a lens  I had no other option though and had to rely on one eye for a week...must have spent a fortune on paracetamol! Headaches and tiredness for a few days .
Sorry you have had a bad day x

Thanks Pat, Elizabeth and Matthew.

Pat, that is a good idea. They seem pretty tough and I was wondering whether I could re-use them.

Matthew, the worst thing, for me, about losing a lens, particularly in the house, is that even after I have decided the lens is lost, I still keep looking day after day, hoping I'll find it somewhere on the bathroom floor.

When I was burgled, many years ago, a coat I was very fond of was stolen. For weeks and weeks afterwards I would be looking at people in the street to see if they were wearing it

Donna, I must be honest and say it wasn't too bad a day.

When I lose a lens it is a bit like having man flu. There, I have admitted such a condition exists!
