Hi just wonderer whether any one had undergone this proceduere as this is the type of graft my surgeon intend to carry out on monday providing the inner layers of my cornea are not as servily damaged as the outer layers. he has said that there is a high chance that he may have to decicded to do a pk graft during surgery. I just want to know what to expect and whether there surgeon had to revert to a pk graft.

DALK has any one under gone this type of graft

hey MARTWOMAN, yes, I have had two DALKs in the past year, one in each eye. Here, they alwys try for a DALK if there is a chance it will do the trick, and if they err during surgery or if the underlayers are not good, they can revert to a PK at that time.
DALKs are real, and really work, though there are differences in the procedure, the healing, care and eventual visual accuity between them and PKs.
I had my first in October of 2006 and now I have 20-30 vision (sorry, don't know the conversion factor to make my numbers look like UK numbers, perhaps someone else can help with that.).....and with the ill fitting contact lens I have 20-20 with minor residual extra images.
Have no fear, as long as your specialist/surgeon is an experienced and capable person and has a good OR team.

had graft done monday arrived home about three hours should of been home last night but couldnt keep anthing down after the anaesetic.. I had DALk but my have to have a minor op next money wont know till friday though. The surgeons said this will involve putting in a bubble in my eye which will help with helping the graft to take. he is very pleased with the progress so far. I am have been pain free most of the time only getting alittle bit of pain in the eye after having drops in and only a little bit of watering but all is well. As for the vision though abit hard to tell at the moment every looks abit cloudy at the minute but surgeons says thats problaly due to there being aliitle fluid in the eye but i;m not to worrid at the moment as the surgeons says this will go in due cause. And a i pleased you have quite good vision in your eye as gareth said 20/30 is the same as 6/9 so your 20/20 vision is the same as are 6/6 vision. Thanks for your reply piper
