Don't now much about cataracts, sorry .... other than that I've heard other peple saying the same as Piper; lso that there is a default" amongst the medical staff to fit "distance2 vision new intraocular lenses which may not be the best option for people who do a lot of close work, eg with computers.
What I do know about is close contact and the vision/comfort/"ideal fit" trade off!
Back in the days of PMMA (Perspex) lenses, I ugot my early one with huge great contact zones - I'm talking sclerals here - that apparently wnet against all the text books and the advice on fitting. But I could see well out of them like that. When I moved to London, it took ages for MEH to come tot he conclusion that I was right and it was better to make bigger contact zones and get better vision like that.
With the Rgp materials, they have a different "microtexture" so the large contact zones are not so feasible as the rougher texture makes for poor tolerance. SO where did that leave us? - answer: piggybacking! The hard, scleral, lens fits with a large contact which gives better vision in the eye than I'd had for ages, and the soft lens under deals with the discomfort of close fitting RGP textures.
HOwever, the vision isn't all that hot, which apparently is the state of advancement of the KC, and MEh are now offering me grafts. And atelling me I'm commendably blood-vessel encroachment free!
Incidentally, MEH, and I gather they aren't the only ones, use fitting sets made of tPMMA when they are trying out different sizes/shapes of lenses to see which fits best, and then makes "your" one out of RGP materials. SO iis it possiblel your "rogue" good eye test came with a PMMA fitting tset trial lens and the vision couldn't be repeated because "the" lesn was RGP and not tolerated in that shape made of that material??
Incidentally, I'm not clear wheter the lenses you are getting are the smaller corneal ones, or sclerals? (II presume either made of RGP) - or a partially-hard=part soft type of lens?
If your experience is based on corneal lenses, you might find sclerals a help. Or else piggybacking.
