foggy lenses

I have been having a real problem today with my scelrals fogging up. I have had to take them out and clean them about half a dozen times just so I can see.

I have used Boston and Quattro as well as the saline as well as using Systane drops or Vital Eyes all to no avail because within a short time they've fogged up again.

Anyone any ideas as to why this might be happening and any ideas for remedies I might try? I haven't experienced it quite so badly before and it's very frustrating.

Hey there. I didn't do very well with sclerals so never got to a point where they were misty though i can understand it with piggybacking my RGP with a soft lens. I need to take it out and clean it and then replace it after a lot of rinsing.

I know how frustrating it is and how you can keep doing it and it makes no difference. I find that using a protein cleaner does help but not sure where you stand with sclerals.

With my Kerasoft I thought they were fogging up because I had an airbubble under the lens.

What I found was that it was my cornea that had fogged up due to water logging.

what gave this away was that when I looked at a light source such as a car headlights I not only got a halo, but the full spectrum of colours!

I hope you are not getting this!

The other thing is when I was experimenting with Systane, if I used them with the lens in, they would fog up after about 10 minutes, more dops and all was well for another ten minutes.

What worked in that case was a thorough lens clean up and only using the systane with the lens removed.

I have also found that if I forget to use protein remover, my lens has the symptoms of fogging up, but a good 8 hour soak in protein remover does the trick then. I know when this is the case, because the fogging is accompanied by mild lens irritation.

I recently got some Miraflow from Postoptics so will give that a try.
I can't leave the sclerals to soak because they have to be stored dry so I will just have to give them a good clean tonight and again in the morning hopefully that will do the trick.

No Gareth I don't see a spectrum when I look at headlights just a halo or two or three I only use the Systane with the lenses out, the Vital Eyes can be used with the lenses in but it doesn't work so well with sclerals in - the drops just bounce off

I found Miraflow to be a good cleaner, it is great with RGPs as well. Hoping you can sort something out soon.

Well the Miraflow seems to have worked, no fogginess so far (touch wood).

I used to have a problem with my sclerals fogging up. To get round it I used to absolutely fill the lens with saline, to the point where it was overflowing and put the lens, full of saline, into my eye. This meant that there was no air inside the lens at all, so there was no gap for the vapour to form.

Well I have managed the whole day without the lenses fogging up so thats one-nil to Miraflow the Boston has now been disposed of it was practically finished anyway. I always used it with my corneal lenses with no problems but sclerals seem to need that bit extra and the Miraflow does seem 'thicker'. I'm really glad it's back.

Hi Gareth, I get the spectrum sometimes too-not very nice is it, how did you combat it, can I use a protien remover with RGP'S?
