8 Days Post Op

Hi all
Well I'm eight days post op today and i did say i would keep you all informed. I saw my consultant today. He is very pleased with the graft (which was a full graft apparently) it's looking good but is a little on the dry side. My drops are now only every 4 hrs and the antibiotic drops have stopped all together now. He tells me he will not even consider removing the stitches for at least 12 months. It still feels a little gritty, light sensitive and tender when i wash my face. I'm sure it will all just take time. As yet there is no improvement to my vision but i'm optomistic. I hope this has all been of some help and interest to you all. I will keep you posted.

I got a gritty felling for a bit after my graft, and put this down to the sutures irritating the inside of my eyelid. If the surgeon isn't concerned, you probably don't need to be worried, either.

How long did you have the 'gritty feeling' ? I too put it down to the stitches rubbing on the eyelid, It is very irritating though.

Gritty feeling most definitly the sutures. For me this lasted a couple of weeks, others it is a week and I know some who had this feeling for a couple of months.

It is not painful, just annoying.

The grittiness became less and less a problem within a couple of weeks. when it was bery bad I used to drench my eye with hypermelose. I keep this in the fridge and it is VERY REFRESHING.

Yes. Now some people prefer other products. I use hypermelose during the day and Carbomber Gel at night. I know that Gareth has posted before about another wetting stuff.

The idea here is that you find something that suits you.

The stuff I use is Systane by Alcon which provides wetting and lubrication over the cornea. As it goes onto the ye, it forms a protective gel that is the lubricating layer and also helps prevent water loss from the cornea.

Available from most chemists over the counter.
