Hydrops and eye pain

Postby Dave Dale » Sat 28 Aug 2004 4:55 pm

Hi folks....

I have been geting awful, numb pains behind my left eye for a few weeks now..it seems worse in the morning? So i took a trip to my GP who said it was common for males to get pain in one side of their face and to keep up with the paracetamol......she must have had a bad day as she looked at her pc and said 'Well your blood pressure was fine in Jan when we last took it so it wil be fine'...now I am no doctor but surely Blood pressure can flucuate on a daily basis let alone over 7 months!

Anyway..pain got so bad that I went to eye cas where I had my pupils dilated etc..the result was that the Dr said I maybe have acute case of hydrops and is worse in the morn as the eye cannot become oxygenated very well due to the lid being closed.

My question is that I have no other 'hydrop' symptoms other than the pain around my eye socket and into my temple area..he said that my cornera was nice and clear so surely that would rule out hydrops??

He prescibed some presevative free eye drops to use over trhe next 3 weeks..I did'nt buy them as I have some focus clearz stuff which is preservative free and must be the same..and cheaper?

Just curious..looking forward to going back to school to meet all my lovely new students..wonder if I can stil see the back of the classroom?? 8)

We hever heard how this story ended.

Was it a Hydrops? did it clear up?

I am amazed at the attitude exhibited by yoru GP.

All the best

Hi Dave,

Not heard of the symptoms you describe.

However on the eye drops front the only real way to tell if they are the same is too look on the label.

There are many types of preservative free eye drops that have different theraputic effects so it might be worth biting the bullet and trying the ones the doctor prescribed.

I have no reaction to the preservatives used in eye drops, but I do react to some of the active ingredients.

Sounds odd that you dont mention any opaque areas of your cornea etc,i had hydrops come on in mid september and still have only about 30% vision in the affected eye, despite various people/doctors telling me it would go in 8 weeks or so
Lock up your daughters.....
