mr o brart said that he has treated 15 eyes with c3r so far and that i am probably in the 1st thousand people in the world to have this done???
80 hours post treatment now and the eye has settled down considerably, so much so that i can comfortably watch tv etc without the lights hurting.
vision still pretty blurred though and nowhere near what it was before the treatment.
mr o brart also told me that his preferred form of treatment for moderate KC is c3r combined with an intac at the moment and i am considering this in my left eye which is a lot worse than my right one that i have had c3r in(vision in right eye is 6/3 without correction, in left 6/4 with a lens ).
has anyone on here had c3r combined with an intac done???

Don't beleive anyone has had C3R in combination with intacs.
It will still take time for the eye with C3R to settle. Te cells that were scraped off still need to heal which takes a week or so and the corsslinking will still be taking effect. Jayuk who had this done found it took about 3 months before the vision settled. With Intacs you are looking at about 6 - 12 months before vision stabilises.
A presentation I saw today said that for the first 3 months the vision was worse, but by six months it was graetly improved and was far better than the pre operative vision.

from what mr o'brart said he would do them both at the same time and he seemed to think that i may not need correction afterwards or at worse specs or soft lenses.
hoping my vision will take weeks rather than months to settle this time. he told me at the most 4 - 6 weeks with being able to drive after 1-2 weeks.
didn't realise the intacs took that long to settle but i shall discuss it with him when i go for a checkup on fri.
are there many people on here who have had just the intacs fitted and do you know what the average cost is?? i was quoted £1500 per eye for intacs and £750 per eye for c3r.
mr o'brart said that he has been pushing for these treatments to be made available on the nhs but to no avail. he said he thought it would be an absolute minimum of 2 years before they are.

Hi Ashley - I can't help you with costs for the intacs as I'm in Australia.. but I have just had my 1st eye done (2 days ago) and it's something I would highly recommend (going by my experience so far).
The info I was given stated that your vision can fluctuate for up to 3 mths - but most of the change happens within the 1st 2 wks. I'm pretty sure this is what it said anyway. I've misplaced the info sheet for the moment!
Each day has seemed to bring about a subtle change in my vision so that's promising. My surgeon also told me he is thinking that after both eyes are done I wont be needing any form of visual correction.
Oh.. and also - I was able to drive the day after my op. (Obviously this is going to differ for everyone).. but with my hard lens still in the other eye things were fine. I wouldn't have gone anywhere unfamiliar or driven too far at nite though.
The place I had my intacs done at recommends having C3R done afterwards. I'm not sure when this is supposed to happen, but would assume it will be sometime in the near future! It's interesting that the order of having the C3R and intacs done can differ.. wonder what the reasons are for that?
Ok well if you want any more info feel free to let me know.
All the best with your C3R recovery

hi kirsten
yeah my specialist said that he would either do c3r and the intac at the same time or the intac 1st, as he believes that by doing the c3r 1st then the intac would have less effect on a more rigid cornea.
my vision in the c3r eye gettin better every day although still pretty blurred. reckon i could drive ok now though with my lens in other eye.

That's great things are improving. That's pretty much what my vision is like too.. quite blurred still - but it's amazing wot u can do with one good eye! lol
I only work a few minutes from home.. so I just drive really carefully. It's not as though I can't see big objects anyway, it's more just the definition that's still missing.

Hello everyone,
I had the C3R 10days ago at the London Refractive Eye Surgery. It was £1250 an eye and carried out by David Jory. I enquired about INTACS and advised to leave this 6 months to a year, to allow the cornea to recover and strengthen. It seems like there are different opinions on this. The practice also offers micro surgery to improve astigmatism, long and short sight. I had a high astigmatism before the C3R and although this still remains after yesterdays check up, my vision has improved a couple of points on the chart. I may be able to have this micro surgery, which is less intrusive than INTACS, although a minimum depth of cornea is required, which I may not have. I was informed this could change but it can still improve in 12 months.
I have 1 good eye and hoping it doesn't develop but wondered if anyone has had C3R in a good eye as a preventative measure?
