Hello Martin and Jayuk and other members,

After finding out I had Kerataconus, just over a week ago, I looked into C3 R treatment. I had an appointment at The London Refractive Eye Surgery in London yesterday and decided to undergo the treatment while I was there. Dr. David Jory carried out the treatment. I went back to the surgery today for a check up and everything was as good as could be expected, on the first day. The topography showed the cornea had flattened, but this is very early days and could just be a result of inflammation etc. I decided to have the treatment quickly, to cease any further progression. As all those undergoing the treatment in the US and Europe experienced stabalisation, with 20% gaining improved vision, I felt there was nothing to lose! I'd certainly recommend the Clinic.

How was the procedure? What happened and how did you find it?

Do you think ull have before and after Topographies to post? Id suspect that at the 6 week mark thinks may stabilise more..and at the 3 month alot more better.....

Hope it works well for you. What you did using C3R at diagnosis, is what the Doctors participating in a C3R trial here in Australia hope to achieve for every one at diagnosis. If the trial is successful they hope to get it covered by medicare and have it as an initial treatment option.

Prue - do you happen to know approx. how much the C3R treatment costs in Oz?
I'm having intacs done (the 1st eye this Fri - I can't wait!!!) and then they've mentioned I should get the C3R done sometime after.
Because it is performed at a different place I haven't received a quote for the C3R though.

In Melbourne where they are doing the study, it is free but only half get the procedure. If they find it successful they will start doing it, about a year will give them a guide, but it will have a cost involved. 5 years they are hoping to have it to the point it can be approved by medicare which will probably still cost if you want it done quickly but there will be a rebate.
It is available in Sydney, I found it on a google search. I think it was the eye institute. So a phone call to them may give you an idea as to cost.

Nah the eye institute doesn't do it. They do the intacs but send you to the Sydney Eye hospital for the C3R...
That's ok though - i'll wait and see what they say 1st and then find out about costs. It's no big deal. Being able to get a Medicare rebate would be great. That's the beauty with intacs ... I get a fair chunk of money back from Medibank and Medicare!
