I find that my lenses are very uncomfortable the day after having put them in the protein removal solution; the day after that though the discomfort is gone.
Does anybody else have this problem or is it just me?

This could be the film that is being removed by the protein removal tablets......or at least it sure sounds like it.........and Id suspect that as your wear them the lenses gets recoated with the slime and grime from the eye........have you had it chcked out?

No advice, explanation or solution to add Michael (sorry) but the exact same thing used to happen to me. It used to put me right off cleaning them. Even though I knew I was doing wrong I didn't clean them as often as I was told to because I just couldn't face the extra discomfort afterwards.

Jay, could you clarify please. What needs to be checked, my lenses or my eyes?(probably my brains!) One lens is very new and the other not very old so these should be ok.
I used to leave the lenses in the solution for 4 hours whereas the directions now say leave overnight. Perhaps this is the problem. Having said that I never felt 4 hours was enough and quite often had to repeat the exercise
Alison, not cleaning the lenses is not an option.
I need to remove the protein every 2 to 3 weeks and failure to do so would mean even greater discomfort and soreness.
Until a few years ago I could go months on end without needing to remove protein. I don't know what that signifies, if anything.
I suspect increased use of computers is to blame for this.

When I take the lenses from the prtoein remover solution I rinse it with saline, then clena the lens as I would do normally as if I had been wearing them and rinse that cleaner off to with saline. I am sure it then says to leave them in conditioning solution for at least and this is where my memory fades and I will have to look it up.
Basiclley every weekend I have a day off from wearing lenses and soak them for at least 4 hours and then leave the lenses overnight in the conditioning solution.
What tablets are you using?

Gareth, I use Amiclair tablets and pretty much follow your routine and in any event follow the instructions in the box.
Normally I wear my lenses every day although sometimes at the weekend I leave them out until around 10.00am.
Generally speaking I am able to get away with lens wear for almost as long as I want which probably means I over wear them.
As i visit Moorfields every 6 months or so I guess everything necessary has been checked but I will try to remember to mention this next time i go in January.
