Sister with eyesight problems

Have just been talking to my twin sister who is having major problems with her lenses and just been diagnosed with keratitis. Emma if you are now coming here for some help you have promised to leave your lenses out!!!

I have told her that with all the problems i have had with KC with seven months off sick, ulcers and infections and having a graft last summer that she should be taking this more seriously and resting her eyes!!

She needs to leave her lenses out keep up with all the eyedrops, use LOADS of systane and STOP rubbing her eyes!!!! LOL!!!

PLEASE can friends here reply to this because i am hoping that she will come here to read and realise that this will get better but only if she takes care of her eyes!!!

Emma, if you do pay us a visit, I strongly recommend that you listen to sis and take the eye drops and generally look after your eyes.

I have not suffered from Keratitis but it is something that needs to be dealt with promptly and not allowed to go unchecked.

It is a shame, but the fact of life with KC is that you have an abiding need to see. And to see as well as you can. So we wear contact lenses.

Unfortunately, eyes aren't designed to have bits of plastic stuck in them, and can get problems. When you have these problems, it's usually best to leave the lenses out.

I know that it's tough, and that you won't be able to do some things without your lenses that you can do with them... but it really does help.

Emma......darllng......please be a good sister and take a bit of advice......do as your sis, Sweet, asks........if she didn't love you she's simply let you go blind. Go see your specialist. Use your drops.....wear pants with pockets to carry your drops, and put your hands in to keep from rubbing your eyes......

then, become a member here and rely on the good advice from persons who know what is happening.

Aarrghhh!!! After promising NOT to wear lenses and take some time off work she has gone back today wearing a lens

I give up. it doesn't matter if she is going to take some time off in a few days, then it will be too late and the damage will be done

Am just hanging on knowing that she will come back soon and say that things are much worse.

Sweet, it sounds like your sister is like my son. Perhaps a bit of reverse psychology is required.

Tell Emma to do the opposite of what you want her to do and you may have a chance.
It is infuriating when you beat your head against a brick wall .

You did your best and that's all you can do.

Your sister sounds like my mother inlaw. She ignored all advice from the doctors, friends and famill and is really paying for it now as we tell her she has her self to blame and as a concequence when she wants sympathy none is coming.

Help my mother inlaw still but she knows I have little sympathy for those who bring extra suffering on themselves.

Only you know how to deal with your sister but my brother is also pretty set in his ways. He has posterior KC which is untreatable with lenses. He was put off a graft by some rather dubious advice many years ago and hasn't been back. He is struggling on but I'm sure he could be better off. I tried the big brother approach and it really did not work! The more I nagged, the more he dug his heels in. I realised pretty quick that he had to find his own way, all I can do is give him the facts! Maybe the same applies? Maybe not.

My sister is younger than me and has KC, she is also like me post graft. She is as stubborn as they come and follows her own path even though I know she could benefit from my experiences. Stubbornness runs in our family and we both dig our heels in. Needless to say there are a few fireworks. However when the chips are down we tend to go to each other for support, she may ignore my advise but she will accept my shoulder. If that is all she will accept that has to be enough for me. I keep asking her to come here but so far no luck. Maybe we should get Emma and Erica here and they can complain about what bossy sisters we are. I know your intentions are good, so are mine, but Ric needs to make her own path and she seems to need it to be as different as possible to mine.

Well now she has to have two weeks off but so long as this means no lenses i feel better about this.

I came here when i had a really bad time at the beginning of my sick leave. This is a time when a lot of people find this place for some help, when everything is going wrong and you need some support off people who understand personally about KC.

Am just hoping that she does post something here, she has dropped in to read a little so who knows.
