Allergy to Systane

Hehe yes i have a brand new pc, sadly not a pink one but i do have a fantastic pink flowery mouse!! LOL!!!

The eye has been really aching lately and have now discovered that i am allergic to systane. I am ok in the other eye though so this is obviously a reaction from the donor. I can see 6/15 with a lens but I have only tried one and so far it keeps sliding so I need a tighter fit. I am going to perserve with it though!

Am doing ok with everything else and it is such a relief to finally be back online!!!! So dam exciting!!!!

Which Syatne you been using?

Bottle or single use ampoules?

I must admit I find the single use ampoules far more soothing than the bottles. No allergies to the preservatives, but I do think their absence makes a big differance.

I was using the bottles but have now found out that they contain preservatives, I get no problems with the ungrafted eye though! Am using the ampoules now for my grafted eye as they are preservative free, they are more soothing but much more annoying to carry around once opened!

My optom is saying Systane needs to be in ampoules to be free of preservatives, but then how come Blink comes in a bottle and it has no preservatives?? I had no problems in either eye with Systane in a bottle before but I now think my donor graft is allergic to it as my eye aches constantly if I use it.

Does anyone know whether donated tissue comes complete with the donor's allergies?

Blink does contain preservatives too, but a different kind to Systane which is why Blink is also available in single use ampoules.

I have found an old compact umbrella case perfect for lens solutions. It is rigid and has a good seal. There is room for a small pack of Boots 'Weekend Contact Lens Solutions' which is a bottle of cleaner and larger bottle of wetting solution and a spare lens case. There is also enough room for some tissues and about 6 ampoules of Systane. The caps on the Systane are quite tight so in this protective case there is nothing to pull the tops off.

The case is not larger than spectacles case and has survived many a trip in my wifes handbag and being thrown around the glovebox of the Capri when I have been doing a few high speed displays on track.
