C3-R Treatment for Keratoconus

Hello all.
Has anyone had this new treatment yet. I am being assessed at the moment to see if I could benefit from Corneal Collegan Crosslinking with Riboflavin. I am keen to hear from people who have had the treatment.

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the Forum, Jayuk will no doubt reply this evening and put a huge lists of links to posts regarding his treatment.

It was a succes in that he bought him time to allow his graft to heal before the next eye needed a graft.

Thanks for the info Jay.
I'm attending the Wellington Clinic in Dublin and thay have just taken delivery of a C3R machine. I suspect that I will be one of the quinea pigs. They are also tyring to have BUPA extend their cover to C3R treatment.

I'm in the same position as you in that I can't be without my lenses for an extended time, I have to go to work to earn money to pay bills etc. I left out one lens while on holidays and had my eye measured again. Apparrently the curvature is significantly steeper when the lens are left out for a while, and the lens was painful for about 2 days after re-inserting.

I'll keep you posted as things happen.

I beleive the lens does have a slight reshaping effect. My optom also told me that for each day I went without a lens that I loose an hours wear time when I start wearing again. So a weekend of no lenses means come monday my total wear time should be reduced by two hours and needs to be built up again.

So the discomfort may have been due to a needs to get acclimatised to lens wear again and/or the KC has progressed.

There are many here that have got used to wearing one lens at a time just to get comfortable sight for the whole day.

I used to do this before discoving Systane lubricating eye drops.

It would be good if it was on BUPA....although I am not sure how they would rate/measure its success as a viable treatment...some I am suspecting this may be some 1-3 years away before they clear it?....if you hear any more let us know....

Hi Bob,

Yes - please do let us know if you get anywhere with the BUPA thing. It'd be nice for BUPA to pay for that - I think they only pay for grafts for KCers, and nothing else...
