Ann

While I could wear it, I really liked my scleral. the problem with RBP corneal. lesses was always that a tiny bit of grit would feel agonizingly sore. Sclerals solve that problem.

Andrew,

I understand that, but why not have a graft to improve your eyesight when you are not wearing a lens of any type.

My right eye is really bad i not sure what it is but with no glasses on and left eye covered i could not see the chart and can only read the last paragraph on the reading sheet if i held it up to my eye.
Even if i have to wear a scleral lens after the opp at least i have tried it. I will never know how good my life could be if i don't try it. And to be quiet honest life is soooo very hard at the moment. The thought of having a graft makes me feel a lot better.

No argument there, Ann. I was at the end of my string when I had my graft. What a difference it has made!

All the best

Usually there are a couple more consultations prior to the op to give a chance to ask questions, I now write down questions as and when i think of them and present the optom a list, not as long as it used to be.

There is also the opertunity to back out at any time.

In the past when I've had ops, I have been know to keep asking questions even after I have let the first part of the anasthetic to be given.

When I had my first graft they had to give me a second shot because I kept asking questions and my mins was so active it could withstand the first shot. Was about to have a third dose, because I had counted backwards from ten, then 20 the from 100, passed out when I got to 6 apparently!

If memory serves, your KC is off to one side a far bit so making lens fitting hard and posibly the scleral. Not hard for Ken mind, he likes a challenge and by all accounts refuses to accept defeat!

I am sure you have asked many questions before and under John Darts care you should have good vission with glasses post op once the graft has settled.

Was September planned so at least you have most the day to yourself without having to worry about the kids?

Thanks Gareth,

My KC is at the top, but not to far at the top that it makes surgery complicated.
The problem with yesterday John Dart was talking to my husband about the opp while two other doctors were looking at my eyes. So i never had the chance to ask the questions i wanted to ask. (i think i need to stand up for myself a bit more  )

We have decided on september because the kids will be back at school. I will still have Arron whos 2 at home all day.
Hubby has said he will take as much time off as i need(which is more scary than having the graft   )

Anne

I am pretty robust when it comes to standing up for myself, but I never go into an ophthalmology appointment without my notepad with a little list of questions I want to ask. I never leave until I have asked them all, or have asked them and others that arise in conversation.

Before I agreed to my first graft I had a bit of a see-saw when the consultant allowed me to return to his waiting room THREE times while I sorted out secondary questions I wanted to raise.

Never forget that you are in congtrol of the treatment you receive.

Anne,

Here is a question you might like to ask, but I'm sure you ahve thought about it.

Availability of a clear eye shield for daytime use, just incase Arron decides to paw at mummies face!

I remember as a 4 year old, being so releived my Mum had come back from hospital aftera breast cancer op. She was lying on the settee and in my excitement I forgot what my Dad had said, leapt straight on her and need her in the stitches to give her the biggest hug I could.

She hit the roof, I landed on the floor and we were both in tears for different reasons but we both got the hug we wanted in the end :D
