ReNu withdrawn world wide?

Postby asylumxl » Wed 17 May 2006 9:42 pm

My mum told me earlier that she heard on the radio that ReNu is being taken off the shelfs world wide as, not only does it cause infection reported previously, but it causes the eye to dry out and contacts to adhere to the cornea (tight lens syndrome - oh this all seems so familiar to me). is this true anyone? is this bad seed finally being taken off the market?

The web site mentions Renu but is dated yesterday.

Renu FDA Announcement

As the FDA are involved, Baucsh and Lomb have probably been told to recall the product and the license suspended.

The only FDA statement I can find is this FDA Statement Regarding Renu

Before everyone goes in to a panic about contact lens solutions.

The Renu all in one solution is for Soft Lenses only. The web page for this product Wear and Car Kit is the only contact lens site that makes the statement;

Remember, to enjoy safe and comfortable contact lens wear, please follow the proper wear and care recommendations of your eye care professional.

To make it easier and more convenient for you to follow a healthy lens care routine, Bausch & Lomb has created the Wear&Care program.

If you take out the Renu solution plug what they say is what we should be doing anyway.

Hope this helps.

This is an e-mail I received this morning from Postoptics;

Recall of Renu MoistureLoc Solution

Dear Mr Beynon

Although our records indicate you have not purchased Renu MoistureLoc from us in the past, you may well have purchased this solution elsewhere or have friend or relatives who use it. If this is the case please read this email carefully.

You may know from press reports that Bausch & Lomb recently withdrew Renu Moistureloc solution from the United States market following some concerns over an association with a rare eye infection called Fusarium Keratitis.

Although there has been no evidence at all that European production of the solution is associated with this condition, Bausch & Lomb have now taken the decision to withdraw Renu MoistureLoc from all markets on a permanent basis. Further details and the official Bausch & Lomb statement can be found on their web site.

If you have any of Renu MoistureLoc solution we can arrange to replace this irrespective of where it was purchased - simply contact our customer services department on 0845 200 0055. We will send you a bottle of an alternative solution by first class mail along with a pre-paid return voucher for you to have any MoistureLoc solution replaced.

Our lines are open between 8.30am and 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on Saturday. If you have any concerns or questions, we will of course be more than happy to help in any way possible.

I would stress that this recall is an entirely precautionary measure and there has been no evidence of anybody in the UK having problems caused by using Renu MoistureLoc solution.

Kind regards

< P>

This article even made it into the 'Metro' today. (London). I haven't used this but am hoping that anyone who does can find something just as good.

From what I can make out in the newspapers much of what is reported beyon what is on the Bausch & Lomb web site appears to be hear say.

The FDA have only said they are working with Bausch & Lomb. They will never give anything more away incase things get worse and go to court in which case they want to ensure the case is not prejudice.

I think it is getting a lot of press after that clinical trial fiasco.
