Haven't a clue Carole. :?

Everything seems to be working a-okay for me.

Have you tried logging off and back on again, or restarting your browser or compter?

Hi Carole, you sussed it by yourself!

If you use Word to edit, then the "word" "-" dash is translated into a longer dash by word... and the forum objects most strongly to that character for some reason.

So don't use Word, or don't have dashes, and all is fine.

I've heard tech people refer to 'aborting their macro in a debug mode'
What's that mean John?!!

Bit specific, that one!

I'd say that it would probably be a Word or an Excel "program" (Microsoft call them Macros) that has stopped running (due to error, or by forcibly stopping it). The Microsoft debugging environment - where programmers can see more information on how their program actually runs - is then entered.

Phew.

I'm going to assume you're using Internet Explorer, as that debug issue I've seen happen often, especially in earlier editions...

Usually this is easily fixed if you flush the cache sometimes a temp file is downloaded and somewhere got corrupted causing an error in the application, so with IE opened you'll need to goto: Tools, Internet Options ... General Tab, Temp Internet Files, click on delete cookies and delete files and clear history. Shut down and restart IE.

If that doesn't work, you may need to update your browser or reinstall it. But before you get all complicated with that, try using another browser application like Firefox or Opera. Those are essentially, other browser software, and it's useful to have two, to help narrow down the problem, as sometimes it can be an operating system problem and that debug issue will develop into running other applications - but if running a different browser solves the problem then there is usually a good chance it's just IE acting up due to a bad cookie, corrupted temp file or compromised by some script.

The other thing I saw mentioned there was about MS Word. Yeah there are some problems with Word, and writing your posts, email etc, offline and copying&pasting them, I wont get all technical but we can get funny weird little characters that replace the quotemarks and so on. To avoid that, smartquotes and autocomplete in Word needs to be adjusted. I avoid it by simply turning it off.
To do that goto, which is slightly different in different versions of MS Word, but from Office 2000 up (I think), click on Tools, Auto Correct Options:
Goto AutoFormat TAB, and uncheck all the 'auto replace'
Goto AutoFormat as you type TAB and uncheck the options in there.
Also goto (as a small tip) the AutoCorrect TAB you'll see a scrollable list and I have found Word will autoreplace, the triple periods, "..." with a slightly different version of dots that in an email get messed up, so just delete that entry.

Anyway hope that helps.
