Ghosting

I've read a few post on here where people mention gohsting with contact lenses.
I had alot of gohsting when i tried lenses, but my eyesight was better.
My question is am i aiming to high, to have lenses without gohsting?

No you are not.....ghosting is influenced by the type of contact lens you have, and to some extent the size of the optical zone that exists within the lens design.

Hence why some lenses offer better comfort but not good vision and vice versa........this is why its key to make your fitter understand the other options available (I mean lens designs) for the management of Keratoconus

Yes ghosting is all down to a lens fit and a good optometrist will be able to sort that out for you! Ghosting i haven't really suffered with, although getting rid of halos around lights was hard work.

Before i had lenses i actually thought that all lights had a halo around them which made my optom laugh as i bounced in a few days later for my first lens check and made a point of telling him about it!! Well you wouldn't know that would you if you only ever saw lights like that!! I guess it also wouldn't be the thing to ask someone, you don't just come out and ask other people how exactly they see the world do you?!!! It made driving hard until a better fit stopped it, now cars have only two front lights and not a big blur of light all around them, makes that much easier!!!

I've always had ghostin with lenses but is a great improvement over not wearing them. Lights just look like small weird flame shapes rather than distingtive halos. I still get ghosting from my graft but has reduced alot. If you do get slight ghosting it isnt that bad, as long as you getting good vision from the lens.

The gohsting i was getting made it very hard to read. Looking at people and walking around i didn't notice it to much.
I get gohsting now with my glasses but the lenses made it worse.

Ghosting is the main problem I have. I have been told that because of the scarring nothing can be done to improve my sight and a graft has been offered to me.

I have always worn RGP's ever since first diagnosis and glasses are hopeless.

I go to Moorfields every 6 months. Are there any questions I should be asking the optometrist when i next visit as I can't help feeling something could be done to improve my vision without a graft.

Ask and see if there are any other lens designs which may be suitable for your KC.

Sclerals, Rose K2, Intra Lymbals, Piggy Backing, etc....all of these can be used for the management of KC

Ghosting is not really just down to contact lenses.

The whole point about KC is that the cornea is distorted and so it throws up distortions and aberrations that are not "normal" to the eye. Even correction with an RGP, corneal or scleral, does not eliminate these totally, hence the residual aberrations that lead to ghosting, flare and shadowing. It is actually the prescence of these effects that alerts professionals to the possibility of KC, as well, in older patients, as cataracts.

This is also why KCers have so much trouble with "seeing" the lines on a Snellen chart. Yes, you may "see" a line but it looks weird and ghosty and nothing the optom does really makes it look right. This is because we can't match your aberrations exactly and even if we could, they may well change by next week!
