'It is important to remind of the fact that Italy already detains the record of cornea transplantation in terms of quantity and quality (in 2005 waiting lists for cornea transplantation were set at zero; in Italy every year there are 10,000 cornea transplantations)'
I found this part interesting too. But the robot and healing time of 6 weeks sounds fantastic. Now if only I was Italian...... BRB.... Just off to browse italianbrides.......

JayUK, not familiar with your views but I have to say that in the 21st century we are still using a teqnique that has changed little in over 100 years, where as heart transplant surgery developed in the 1960's just keeps improving.

I refer you to my Michael Knight Analogy.
However, the only central place where stuff like this gets discussed is the World Corneal Conference which are held annual, predominantly in the USA.
Its here where the emmerging techniques, research, and new ideas and avenues are declared and explored......
You have to think and appreciate the following
How many people need Heart Surgery? Now relate this to how many people that need corneal transplants.....then you may start to understand why things havent advanced as much......supply and demand, profit and loss,
and above all - Research costs Money - If I buy a house , I would expect to actually get more back for it in 5 years........along those lines, if I plough money into research I would expect to get a sizeable return.........like a vicious circle realy....but we are getting there.....and with the newer emerging Consultants who are now in there mid 30's early forties......a new vision is being adopted....

KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -
