Just water is a good drink. I like it from the tap. did you see the gru, pies on television wondering about the sudden fashion for drinking bottled water?

An old friend of mine once came into the Chapl;aincy at the University where I used to work. "Oh Andrew," he said, "I see you have derrier water in the Chaplaincy."

I smiled.

"Do you want to know why I call it Derrier Water?" he went on.

I smiled again, trying not to look too interested.

"Becuae you'd have to be a complete a**e to pay a pound a bottle for it!"

Hehe ...water falls from the sky and is free!!! So why should we pay for it?! Beats me!!

I just filter it because after being used to lovely soft water from Wales i do find the water in London to be so much harder!!

Other than that it's fine!! And to quote an advert line ... 'there is nothing added to it, and nothing taken away!!' :P

The water here is wonderfully 'soft', too. The problem here is that the health police want to add flouride salts to the tap water, so we may not be able to say "nothing added" for very much longer.

No but obviously they feel that it is lacking in it and being so good for your teeth that isn't a bad thing!

But I use toothpaste with fluoride. that is my choice. We already live in a culture where dental caries is at an absolute minimum, thanks to the improements in toothpaste manufacture and composition. To add the stuff to the water could lead to a fluoride overdose.

A study carried out at Harvard University showed a strong link between dietary fluoride (from fluoridated water) and bone cancer in boys.

Then there is the risk of fluorodosis: a staining of the teeth, making them unsightly. I'd prefer not to add all this to the public water supply. If people like me want to have toothpaste with fluoride, that is fine and okay. But to add a potentially hazardous chemical to the public water supply in order to drive dentists out of business, that is another thing altogether.

Very true, but i'm guessing that it is a tiny amount and very diluted? I would also imagine you would need to be drinking it by the bathful to make a huge difference!! LOL!!

I'm not sure really, back home some talked on it but thought that the sheep had all the answers and so left things alone!

Maybe the growth in the sales of bottled water is down to a general distrust of the stuff they put in the tap water.

Anyone remember "Dasani"? The wonderful new bottled water from Coca-cola?

Well, Coke have a bottling plant in Sidcup and they were basically taking tap water, and putting it into bottles.

Of course, they also "purified" it, which made Thames Water angry, as they insisted that the tap water was perfectly pure anyway.

Of course, when it turned out that the "purification" was actually introducing carcinogens, the product was withdrawn.

I think it is very funny, as living in Sidcup myself, other people were buying Sidcup tapwater. I saw it on sale in Newcastle, and almost bought a bottle "for a taste of home":).

Glad I didn't
John
