RGP wearing time

Postby Mas-tech » Fri 09 Nov 2012 3:48 pm

Hi All,

Hope everyone's doing good.

I finally got my RGP contacts yesterday and what a wowzer, things have never been so clear. My eye doc gave me a schedule on how long to wear them for day one 1 hr, day two 2 hrs, so on and so forth. Today I thought I;d give it a ago and see how it feels after 3 hours and I felt perfectly fine, contacts were comfy and I had no irritation. Although I did keep thinking the contacts kept falling off cus I couldn't feel them as much as I did yesterday.

What I want to know is if I'm actually able to wear them a bit longer than advised, will that cause any problems. The leaflet I was given just says for your own safety wear them based on the wearing scheduling given to you. Then after a week I can wear them 12 hours straight till my next appointment.

Thanks in advance.

Mas

Hi Mas,
Great to hear that things are going so well and the lenses are making such a difference to your vision. But I'd say stick to the schedule, tempting as it is to push it. Overwearing your lenses at the beginning could make your eyes dry out and become red and sore. We're all told to build up wearing time gradually, to make sure the cornea stays healthy. So be patient - hopefully in a week or two you'll be happily wearing your lenses 12 hours a day.
Good luck
Anne
