Interesting programme on next week

Postby caroline6505 » Fri 03 Feb 2012 10:09 am

Hi

I was watching something on channel 4 last night and saw an advert for a programme next Tuesday at 9pm. Programme is about Katie Piper undergoing surgery (looks very much like it's based at Centre for Sight, if I'm not mistaken). Programme is called The Science of Seeing. I believe it covers Stem Cells (sorry for being vague). Thought it might be of interest.

Caroline.

From Katie's web site

"Channel 4 Tuesday 7th February at 9pm

Katie says “I am excited to announce that I have been filming a new documentary which is going to be shown on Channel 4 next week (Tues 7th February at 9pm). It is entitled Katie: The Science of Seeing Again and it shows me having my 110th op, using controversial cutting-edge science, which could truly transform my life, providing me with my only chance of seeing again through my badly damaged left eye.

After spending three and a half years struggling to accept that I would forever be blind in one eye, I heard about pioneering surgery that could potentially restore my sight using the extraordinary power of stem cells. I tracked down the doctor responsible for it and have put myself forward to be one of the few people in the world to undergo the treatment, which entails transplanting stem cells directly into my eye.

I hope that you find the programme as interesting to watch as it was for me to film!”"

I was actually at the Centre of Sight when she arrived. I had NO idea who she was/is but the staff were quite excited when she arrived. It would explain why she had a few people with her and why flowers were delivered (from her agent I imagined) when she arrived.

Thanks for flagging the programme up - would have missed it otherwise

It's actually mentioned on the CFS website:
