Well after having crosslinking and intacs in my left eye over the past couple of year i am back to trying a contact lens for that eye - still get good vision in glasses for the right eye. Whilst i am under St Pauls Eye Unit at Liverpool and had the option of going to their in house opticians for contacts i have decided to go back to my local optician as St Pauls dont have any different lenses to my local opticians and i can get the lenses at NHS price through them. This will save me travelling time to and from liverpool (usually a day a time) and give me someone local to see and i can usually get in within a couple of days if i have any problems. My wait time at St Pauls for contact lens fitting was 2-3 months, my wait time at my local optician was less than 7 days for a contact lens fitting appointment (and this was based on the CL fitter working just 5 days in a fortnight)
Just been for my fitting and she now also uses the Kerasoft 3 and Kerasoft IC lenses, along with all the various others i have tried. Typically one measurement was at one end of the trial lenses and the other measurement was at the opposite end - well if i have an more unusual condition as might as well be awkward with it as well

. My CL fitter wasnt holding out much hope for getting anything vision wise due to the measurements and what i could see through the pinhole and slithole, however we tried a couple of different lenses out for fit - both very comfortable initially though with a lot of movement when blinking. Got sent out for a walk to allow it to settle and then went back for a vision check - she was very surprised with what vision we got (third from bottom line corrected) and was pretty happy with the fit. She is ordering the lens for me, with a slight tweak on the fit of the skirt, which hopefully i will be able to pick up either just before or just after my 10 day break over the bank holiday period. I then get 2-3weeks to build my wear time up before seeing her again with the lens.
As i have a good relationship with her (and the other staff in the practice - dont even need to give them my name when i walk through the door) i am very relaxed with her and we have a very good honest and open dialogue about what does and doesnt work with the lenses i try - she was very dubious about fitting me after my CXL and Intacs as she doesnt have a lot of experience with them. She also told me that she had lost faith in the earlier versions of the kerasoft lenses (which i have tried) as no matter how good a fit she got with the trial and inital lenses it never seemed to be replicated in repeat lenses when there had been no change but she was very impressed with the Kerasoft 3 and IC lenses and so far hadnt had the same problems. In fact the only problems that had occured were all down to human error, either with what she had transcribed, with mis-interpretation on the prescription when lenses had been made or with the wearer putting the lenses in inside out.
Keep your fingers crossed for me please
