does anyone else react to the yellow dye..

Postby Lizb » Mon 12 Jul 2010 7:48 pm

Does anyone else react to the yellow dye that opticians use to check the front of your eye with the blue light? Every time i have been the hospital/opticians my eyes have ended up hurting/aching/feeling bruised for around 24 hours after my appointment - doesnt matter how many drops i use it never eases before the 24 hours are up. Does anyone have any way of avoiding the problem?

Could it be that you are reacting to something other than the yellow stuff in the drops. I'd tell the ophthalmologist that I was having this experience and ask if there is another dye that he could use.

I acutally meant the yellow drops in general, wasnt fully with it last night. I will mention it next time i go. Yesterday was the first time that these were the only drops used so it was a process of elimination. However i did wonder whether it is the bright light being shone in my eyes rather than the drops that causes the problem... it also affects my vision for the following day

I'm intrigued; do let us know what they say.

All the best
