Interesting day...

Postby Eddie S » Thu 05 Jul 2007 7:56 pm

Hi all,

As many of you know I've not been having an easy time with my lenses recently - I am currently only wearing one in my left eye and throughout my time wearing them, I've never really gained a great fit.

To top things off, the lenses I get most comfort with - SoftPerms are the lenses that most KC professionals fit as a last resort because of their low oxygen permeability (leading to increased risk of blood vessels encroaching onto the cornea and ruling out or making a graft much harder).

Despite numerous attempts to get me out of them (incl. piggy backs, sclerals, RGPS with holes, different materials etc.) I still can only tolerate soft perms.

So it was with some delight that today I got put on the waiting list for intacs in my right eye. After hearing the presentations on Saturday I know what I'm up for and now can't wait!

It turned into an interesting day too as I had my first topography (woah, one look at those and I knew I really do have KC! - what Ken Pullum would probably call a droopy boob!), a test to check the thickness of my cornea at several points and then a standard eye test.

It'll be a while before I go under the knife but I just had to come on and show a smile :D sometimes things go the right way!

Glad things are looking up for you! I know what it's like to struggle with lenses!

Hope all goes well and you don't have to wait too long.

Ed,

Glad that the conference helped you out! It is good that you are now better prepared and know what you are getting into.

Hoping that things go well with you, let us know when the surgery is planned! Love Sweet X x X

Power to the KC peeps.

Leicester does appear to have some excellent eye care people.

Hi all,

Thanks for your support. I just wish it could be this easy for all of us.

I've been told that I should look to have the op sometime this year so I guess that means between 3 and 5 months.

I'll also try and keep a diary like Karl & Stephen have so as to help those who have intacs after me. I know from just reading Karl's and Stephen's posts and then talking to them on Saturday - seeing that they could still see (!) and were very positive about it - helped me a lot.

And hey, its less invasive than squint (double vision) surgery that I've had twice! They'll be doing it in Tescos soon!

I can imagine eye surgery in Tescos or any other supermarket!

They already have the meat counter

After using their contact solutions for a while I think I'll let you try them first Mr. B
