Am seriously wondering why

Sorry am around just have loads to deal with right now without KC. It is almost a year post DALK but to be honest i am wondering if i made the right choice I spent over £3000 and close to £1000 more with follow ups have had a really stressful year with pain and loose stitches and after finally being able to go and try a lens today walked away only being able to see 6/24. This is sadly what i could see with sclerals if i could only get the dam things in.

I know that some here are going to think well it might get better and it was my choice in the end, but right now i wish i could go back and not get it done. My other eye which was so bad at the time which pushed me into doing it now sees 6/6 which is the best it has ever been, so i wish that i had stuck to my original thinking and left well alone. If i am meant to see better i would and all the wrinkles which my surgeon struggled to flattern on the cornea may never settle down, so this could be the best i will ever get

Hi Sweet, good to see you back after a few weeks absence.

I'm really sorry to read that you're feeling down about your latest eye test.

Please try to remember though that at the time you had no idea how the vision in your other eye was going to improve. Also, there is no guarantee that you could not achieve even better vision than this with a better fitting contact lens, or with a scleral (which you may find easier to put in on a less-pointy cornea).

I've been told by my consultant (who is DALKing me on Friday ) that the vision improvement with a DALK is VERY slow. I shouldn't expect any better vision for at least 6 months, and not to even think that vision was permanent for at least two years.

Hang on in there, and I'm sure things will get better.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I have to agree with John on this one. You decision was made based on what you could see at the time.

OK end result not as you expected, but as I found coming back to lenses technology has moved on and the new lenses have meant I have so far avoided a regraft. Who knows in a year or two when your eye has settled further a new soft lens may be available which gives the vision you want, comfort and good oxygen transfer.

I could also give the same lecture I gave you at the AGM. May be if I shout it might sink in

Id have to agree with John and Gareth Here....if you go back to your posts during your crisis at that time it was clear that you didnt have many options and things were becoming impossible....at the time it was clearly the right thing to do......its just its looking that things are taking alot more longer than expected. Its just one of this things sadly........

I'm really sorry to hear that things aren't going so well for you Sweet.

After a few 'in hindsight bad choices' situations really got me down I became very strict with myself about remembering that I had made what I thought was the best choice at the time. It isn't easy when it's something as important as your sight though is it?

It's not the best time for you right now, but with the support of your friends here and everywhere else, I'm sure you will get through it and be a better person for it also.
